Darlle Bellflower Hawkins

A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Darlle Belflower Hawkins, who entered into rest on Saturday, May 1, 2021, will be held at 11 o’clock on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Directors are caring for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Cemetery Fund of Bethlehem UMC, 2240 Bethlehem Road, Hartsville, SC 29550. Born in Pamplico, SC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Ernest Belflower and Sallie Buena Edwards Belflower. Darlle came to Hartsville to attend Coker College. While there, she met her future husband George D. Hawkins, Jr. After graduating from Coker College, she began her teaching career that spanned more than thirty years. Darlle was a beloved teacher to her many students at Antioch and North Hartsville Schools. Upon her retirement, she continued to show a servant’s heart by visiting shut-ins. She was dedicated to this ministry on a daily basis until her health declined. On Sunday mornings for more than fifty years, you would find her at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Being at church every Sunday did not prevent Darlle from cooking Sunday lunch for all of the family. Darlle was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Randolph Belflower. She is survived by her daughters, Pam Tyner (Curtis), Susan Griffin (Donnie). Her grandchildren, Curtis Tyner, Jr. (Jan), Robert Tyner, Chad Griffin (Stacey), and Jennifer Griffin; great-grandchildren Katie Tyner and Emily Tyner. The family would like to thank Dr. T. James Bell and Shari Carter, NP, for their compassionate care for Darlle. Also, the many staff members at Morningside of Hartsville for their loving care of Darlle in her final years.
