COKER COMMUNITY MUSIC PROGRAM

The Coker Community Music Program provides quality voice or piano instruction for students of all ages. The program offers opportunities that develop students’ capacity for critical thinking and creative expression. Emphasis is placed on lifelong learning and developing an appreciation for the role of music in the cultural, intellectual, and social areas of life.
Lessons are taught in the Music Building on the campus of Coker University. This facility as well as the adjoining Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center will enhance weekly learning experiences by providing dedicated practice rooms, world-class Steinway instruments, large class rooms, and a beautiful Recital Hall.

Coker Civic Chorale
The Coker Community Music Program is excited to announce the formation of a new choir. Open to Coker students, faculty, staff, and community members, the Coker Civic Chorale will perform alongside Coker’s student vocal ensembles at their annual fall and spring concerts. No audition is required.
Rehearsals: Thursdays from 6:30–8:30 p.m., Coker University choir room
Fees: $50 for sheet music
Adult Voice Class
For a second year, the Coker Community Music Program will be providing a group voice class to adults. Singers will learn vocal exercises, fundamentals of vocal technique, and repertoire preparation in a friendly and supportive group environment under the tutelage of Coker voice faculty Dr. Christi McLain. Tuition includes twelve 60-minute classes that culminates in a performance of solo, duet, and ensemble repertoire with a Coker collaborative pianist.

Children’s Violin Classes
Our newest instrumental offering, children’s violin classes are offered for both beginning and intermediate violinists three years old and older. The beginning class provides foundational concepts and techniques while the intermediate class is created for students with prior violin study.
Class Day/Time: Beginning Class:Thursdays from 4:00–5:00 p.m., Coker University
Intermediate Class: Thursdays from 4:30–5:30 p.m., Coker University
Ages: 3+ yrs old
Teen Musical Theater Class
After a wonderfully successful class in the spring of 2018, the CCMP is excited to bring back our Musical Theater Class for Teens! This class is designed for junior high and high school students interested in honing their vocal technique, gain important audition skills, and valuable performance opportunities under the tutelage of Coker voice faculty member Dr. Christi McLain.
Class Day/Time: Tuesdays from 5:30–6:30 p.m., Coker University
Ages: 12-18 yrs old
Beginning Voice Class
Perfect for our youngest singers, this class is designed for elementary students interested in learning more about basic singing and breathing techniques, beginning music literacy, and solfege sight reading skill development. Based on students’ experience and comfort levels, they will learn repertoire for ensemble and solo singing.
Class Day/Time: Wednesdays from 5:30–6:30 p.m., Coker University
Ages: 8-12 yrs old
Private Voice, Piano, Trombone, French Horn, Trumpet, Euphonium, Tuba and Violin Instruction
The foundation of the Coker Community Music Program has been providing the highest level of private instruction in the Pee Dee region. Our accomplished faculty allow students of all ages and levels to enrich their lives through the study and exploration of music regardless of level or age.
Class Day/Time: Based on student and instructor availability, Coker University
Ages: 4 yrs and Up
Tuition: $257, 30 minute lessons
$386, 45 minute lessons
$514, 60 minute lessons
- Lesson times are organized between student and instructor.
- Student absences must be reported 24 hours in advance. In cases where advanced notice has been given, a make-up lesson will be scheduled. Make-up lessons will be scheduled for instructor absences.
- Charges for music materials are the responsibility of the student.
- No lessons will be given on national holidays or anytime Coker classes are canceled due to weather conditions, etc. Please visit our calendar for more information.
- There is no tuition refund if the student permanently withdraws from lessons during the term.
- Half-hour lessons are restricted to students between the ages of 7 and 10 years. These students may opt for the longer hour lessons.
