Anna Margaret Nettles Ray, 99, of Pine Mountain, GA, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Orchard View Nursing Home, Columbus, GA.
Mrs. Ray was born August 15, 1918 in Hartsville, SC, the daughter of Henry Joseph Nettles and Lily Stowe Ousley Nettles. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Coker University in Harsville, SC. After graduating college, she married George Whitaker Ray, Sr. and moved to Danville, VA and then to Asheville, NC, where she resided for 42 years. Anna Margaret was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville, NC and attended First Baptist Church of Weaverville, NC.

Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George W. Ray, Sr. of Asheville, NC; two sisters, Lillian Lambeth of Marion, NC, Lucia Mae Dunn of New York, NY; and her grandson, SSG Joseph Randall Ray of Fairview, NC. Anna Margaret is survived by two sons, George W. Ray, Jr. (Jane), of Charlottesville, VA, and Randall N. Ray (Sandra), of Swannanoa, NC; two daughters, Ann R. (Terry) Hemminger, of Pine Mountain, GA, and Jan (Lee) Banks, of Alexander, NC; as well as six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A service honoring Mrs. Ray will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC
