Thomas Martin Koch

Thomas Koch, peacefully passed away on April 23, 2019 at his home in Myrtle Beach, SC, he was 65 years old. Born in Baltimore to the late Donald J. and Anna E. (nee Goldstraw) Koch, Tom was a 1972 graduate of Cardinal Gibbons High School. In 1999, Tom earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Coker College where he graduated with Cum Laude honors. After working as an electrician for many years, Tom followed his calling by pursuing a career in nursing in 2008, and continued to work as a registered nurse until his passing. Tom was passionate about politics, the Baltimore Ravens, Maryland Terrapin basketball, and the Baltimore Orioles. He is survived by his beloved children, Melanie K. Alt and her husband, John, and Megan N. Koch, and his grandchildren, John “Jack” Alt and Mary-Katharine Alt. He was affectionately known as Opa by his grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. Tom is also survived by his loving companion, Mary Speigel, with whom he enjoyed traveling, attending concerts and Myrtle Beach Pelican games, and spoiling their chihuahua, Harley. Additionally, Tom is survived by his cherished siblings Donald, Terri, and Cynthia, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and the Blickenstaff family. Tom will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, kind spirit, and infectious smile. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org). Family and friends are invited to gather at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc., 7250 Washington Boulevard, Elkridge, Maryland 21075 (Exit 6 South off Route 100) on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm with prayers at 7:30pm.
