Ollie Wayne Nappier

A memorial service for Ollie Wayne Nappier, 81, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Nappier died Tuesday, December 19, 2023. Born in Sylacauga, Alabama, he was the son of the late John Calvin Nappier and Ollie White Nappier. Surviving are his wife, Karin Neubert Nappier; son, Mark Andrew Nappier (Pamela); and two grandchildren, Courtney Nappier Asbaty (Brian) and Mark Andrew Nappier, Jr. Mr. Nappier was pre-deceased by three brothers, Nick Nappier, Robert Nappier and Danny Nappier.

Wayne served in the United States Army for over twenty-one years and received two Purple Hearts for wounds suffered in combat. He was awarded numerous medals and decorations while serving, to include the Bronze Star Medal. During his Army service, he graduated from one of the very first Drill Sergeant classes at Fort Jackson, after which he was responsible for the training of many of the soldiers who passed through Fort Jackson for basic training.

While still enlisted in the Army, Wayne earned an undergraduate degree at Coker College and a Master’s Degree at Pepperdine University. Upon his retirement from the Army, Wayne was an instrumental part of the opening of the Columbia Marriott Hotel, where he served as the hotel’s Director of Human Resources.

The family wishes to thank the staff at NHC Parklane as well as the nurses and doctors who cared for Mr. Nappier at Prisma Richland Memorial Hospital.
