In Memoriam

May 13, 1931 – August 16, 2016

Jane Cureton Williams, widow of Thomas Clarence Williams, Jr. died August 16, 2016. Born in Newberry, SC on May 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Barksdale and Melissa Cook Cureton. She was educated in Columbia public schools, attended Coker University and graduated from the University of SC in 1953. While at USC, she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and Editor of the “Garnet and Black” University yearbook. Jane married T.C. in 1954 and together they had two sons, Bruce and Ralph. Jane was a long-time member of Shandon United Methodist Church. After T.C.’s death in 1968, she began working at C&S Bank, retiring in 1984 due to health reasons. In 1991, she moved to the SC Episcopal Home at Still Hopes where she was active on the Resident’s Council, enjoyed playing bridge, travelling with friends, and was a loyal fan of Gamecock football.

Jane is survived by her sons, Bruce T. Williams (Mason K.) and Ralph B. Williams of Columbia, SC; by her grandchildren, T. Keith Williams (Cady) of Greenville, SC, M. Anderson Williams Revercomb (Chapman) of Richmond, VA, Jason Williams (Megan D.) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Sara W. Ball (Mike) of Summerville, SC; and by great-grandchildren, Macie Williams, Bailee and Jaxson Ball. Also surviving her are sisters-in-law, Mrs. Helen W. McLendon of Columbia, SC and Mrs. Caroline W. Lamb of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Jane was predeceased by her brother, Ralph “Ginger” Barksdale Cureton, Jr. and sister-in-law, Elizabeth B. Cureton. The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to the many angels who gave patient and loving care to Jane during the many years she lived at Still Hopes.

Family and friends are invited to the graveside burial service at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Saturday, August 20th at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends Friday, August 19th from 4 until 6 pm at the Still Hopes Guignard Mansion. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider memorials to the Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community, Residents’ Assistance Fund, 1 Still Hopes Dr., West Columbia, SC 29169.
