SGM (Retired) Kerry A. Wren January 2, 1946 March 27, 2017 Biography Funeral service for SGM (Retired) Kerry A. Wren will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2017 in Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel.     Burial with full military honors will follow in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin.      The family will greet friends from 2-4 pm Sunday at the funeral home. SGM (Retired) Kerry A. Wren, age 71, Lawton, died Monday, March 27, 2017 in Lawton.     He was born January 2, 1946 in Lebanon, Missouri, to Wilbur and Vivian (Olsen) Wren.      He grew up in Independence, Kansas. Kerry graduated high school and also attended Junior College in Independence.      He later earned a bachelor degree in Business Administration and a bachelor’s of Science degree from Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina.     He married Janette Epard on December 30, 1967 in Springfield, Missouri.     Kerry served in the U.S. Army for over twenty-two years and reluctantly retired in 1987 due to health issues.     He was a Vietnam veteran whose awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Bar, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Good Conduct Medal (7), Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Army Commendation Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the M16 Rifle Expert Qualification Badge.    Following his retirement from the Army Kerry continued using his gifts for serving others. Kerry was a lifetime member of the DAV, AMVETS and was the current president of the VVA. Through these organizations he used his gift to assist his fellow veteran’s and their families. Kerry also invested himself in the Lawton-Fort Sill Community. He initiated Operation Lawton Cares during Desert Storm and played a significant role in establishing the Vietnam Memorial located in Elmer Thomas Park.      Kerry is survived by his wife, of the home; five children and their spouses, Krystal and Gary Smith, Lawton, Stephen A. Wren and Erica Stillman, Lawton, Sandra and SFC Jeffrey Polette, Elgin, David Jason Wren and Catherine Henderson, Sterling and Kimberly Kristle Wren and fiance James Highberg, Lawton; 13 grandchildren, Rebecca, Joshua, Bradley, Zoe, Zechariah, Brittany, Shane, James, Luke, Brianna, Sunny, Kevin and Joseph; three great grandchildren, Oakley, Ethan and Koa; his twin sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Keith Ackerson and nephew Kent and Kelley Ackerson of Independence, Kansas; and his best and closest friend, Michael O’Rouroke, Lawton. His parents, his brother, Dean, and a sister, Pat, preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, P.O. Box 2483, Lawton OK 73502.
