
Annie “Nan” Neyle Fripp Steadman, 93, of Walterboro, S.C., passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025.
Born October 11, 1931, in Walterboro, she was the younger daughter of the late William Edward Fripp and Rosaline “Cray” Avant Fripp.
Nan graduated from Coker College in 1953. On August 15, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Morris E. “Bud” Steadman, with whom she shared 72 wonderful years of marriage. Together, Nan and Bud were devoted, lifelong members of St. Jude’s Church in Walterboro.
A dedicated educator, Nan taught school for 30 years and was a founding teacher at John C. Calhoun Academy in Walterboro. Outside the classroom, she loved playing tennis and golf, traveling, playing bridge, and hosting gatherings for her many friends.
She is survived by her sons, William Fripp Steadman (Sandy) of Walterboro and Paul Willis Steadman (Cheryl) of Charleston; her four beloved grandchildren, Chelsea Steadman Handegan (Jack) of Charleston, Palmer Maybank Steadman (Nicole) of New York City, Annie Neyle Steadman of Greenville, S.C., and Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Steadman of Charleston; and her cherished great-granddaughter, Harriet May Handegan of Charleston. She was predeceased by her sister, Harriet Fripp Underwood.
Nan will be remembered for her kindness, gracious hospitality, and unfailing sense of humor. Her warmth, faith, and love of family and friends will be cherished forever by all who knew her.
