In Memoriam

December 4, 1929 – January 9, 2017

Anne Harmon McGregor was born on December 4, 1929 in Florence, SC and died on January 9, 2017 in her home at Pinecrest in Hickory, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 49 years, Duncan D. McGregor, and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ivey Harmon, sisters, Hilda Harmon Williams and Lois Harmon Stevens, and brother John Harold Harmon. Anne grew up in McBee, South Carolina. She finished high school at St. Mary’s School in Raleigh, NC and attended Coker University in Hartsville, SC where she graduated in 1951. She married Duncan in 1952, and they traveled the globe twice and lived in Panama, Australia, and 8 states in the United States with their two daughters during his career at Alcoa. Anne in her later years often spoke of how lucky she was to have lived her life with the man of her dreams, to have had adventures she never thought possible, and to have been so blessed. She was a wonderful example to us all of how to grow old gracefully and happily. She will be cremated at her request and inurned beside her beloved husband in the McBee Cemetery, McBee, South Carolina. Friends are invited to a Service of Celebration and Remebrance for the life of Anne Harmon McGregor at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 14, 2017 from the graveside at McBee Cemetery officiated by the Reverend Bruce Adams. Following the graveside service, at 3:00 PM, the family wishes to gather with friends for a time of food and fellowship at The Lear Home, 806 W. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC, 29709. She is survived by her daughters, Sally McGregor Rivers and her husband L. David Rivers of Taylorsville, NC, and Jane Elizabeth McGregor and her husband Andy Schiffer of Los Angeles, California; 3 grandchildren, L. Douglass Rivers of Houston, Texas, Hilary Jane Rivers of Hickory, NC, and Matthew McGregor Yulish of Los Angeles, California. The family cordially requests that memorials be made in Mrs. McGregor’s memory to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 305 W. Main Street, Chesterfield, SC 29709 Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield, SC (www.mrcfuneralhome.com) is serving the McGregor family.
