
It is with deep sorrow that the Hoffmeyer family announces the passing of their beloved mother, Mrs. Joan Snoddy Hoffmeyer, 94.
Mrs. Hoffmeyer, the widow of Gus Hoffmeyer, Jr., entered into rest on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home & Crematory are caring for the family.
A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 2:00 o’clock on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Hartsville with Rev. Fred McDaniel officiating. The family will receive friends and loved ones following the service in All Saints Hall of Wesley United Methodist Church. A family burial will take place privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Coker University at 300 E. College Ave. Hartsville, SC 29550, or the Children and/or Youth Ministries of Wesley United Methodist Church, 145 E. College Ave. Hartsville, SC 29550.
Born in Wellford, South Carolina, Mrs. Hoffmeyer was the daughter of the late Sam M. and Leila D. Snoddy. Mrs. Hoffmeyer graduated from Coker College, during which time she met her late husband. Over the years, Mrs. Hoffmeyer worked for the SCHD with Jim Cox of the Saleeby Law firm and then taught at Hartsville High School for over ten years. She enjoyed family time at the beach, traveling with her husband, Gamecock sports, and many years in Blowing Rock, NC. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Mrs. Hoffmeyer is survived by her four children, Mary Nell (Jimmy) Thomerson and Kay (Dennis) Holley of Hartsville, SC, Gus (Shelly) Hoffmeyer, III of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Meg (Russell) Hyatt of Greer, SC; grandchildren, Jo (Scott) Nelson, Courtney (Mike) Geiger, and Phillip Hunnicutt of Hartsville, SC, Meredith (Cale) Ledford of Duncan, SC, Matt (Marc) Sherwin of New York, NY, and Andrew (Anna Catherine) Miller of Greenville, SC; great-grandchildren, Porter Hunnicutt, Leila Nelson, Eli Geiger, Samara Sherwin, Lucy Ledford, Olivia Ledford, and Johnny Ledford. Mrs. Hoffmeyer is survived by her sister, Margaret Culclasure of Spartanburg, SC; first cousin, Jane Cook of Greer, SC; nephew, Jimmy (Mary) Snoddy of Landrum, SC; niece, Ann (Tommy) Campbell of Woodruff, SC; and nieces and nephews of whom she loved dearly.
Mrs. Hoffmeyer is preceded in death by her husband, Gus Hoffmeyer Jr., her parents, her brother James Snoddy, and her sister Mary Snoddy.
The family especially thanks Agape and The Retreat at Carolina Bay for their loving care.
