CAROL W. BALLENTINE AUGUST 30, 1932 – JANUARY 28,2009 ANDERSON, SC — Carol Whitten Ballentine, age 76, formerly of Timber Lane and The Garden House, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.Born in Anderson, SC on August 30, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Frank Whitten and Cora Dobbs Whitten. She was a graduate of Girls High School and Erskine College. In earlier years, she was an Educator in the Atlanta area. Mrs. Ballentine was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and the Caprician Club. She will be remembered best by her kind and gentle spirit, her strong love for her family and friends, and her optimism for life.Survivors include her children: Whitney Hamrick and husband, Dr. Eric Hamrick of Greenville and Charlie Ballentine, III and wife, Paula Clamp Ballentine of Anderson; sister-in-law, Jan Vestal and husband, Dr. Tom Vestal of Anderson; five grandchildren: Justin, Preston, & Kathryn Anne Hamrick and Brooks & Ben Ballentine. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Major ‘Bill’ Ballentine, and her brother, Alan Whitten.The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 31, 2009, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Dr. William R. Childs. A family committal service will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:45 am until 10:45 am on Saturday, January 31st.The family suggests that memorials be made to the Heritage Fund of St. John’s United Methodist Church, 515 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624 or to Hospice of The Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621
