Live Off-Campus? Here are a few tips! 

Whether you choose to live at home during your college experience, or move to an off-campus apartment as an upperclassman—Coker has plenty of resources to help you balance your commute and your life as a student. 

Browse through the menu below to find suggested shopping lists, advice on making the most of your drive into campus, and general information to make the back-and-forth as stress-free as possible! 


  • Sturdy backpack
  • School supplies (paper, pen, pencil, binder, textbooks, etc.)
  • Your schoolwork
  • Laptop/Tablet
  • Charging cables for your cell phone and laptop/tablet
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snack/Lunch
  • Wallet or purse (with your student ID in it!) 
  • Emergency cash
  • Spare key(s) to your car or home
  • Rain gear (umbrella, boots, raincoat)
  • Sweatshirt/Hoodie/Jacket
  • A change of clothes
  • Toiletry & first aid kits

  • A book to read

  • Double-check everything before leaving your house
  • Plan your class schedule wisely. Registering for courses that are offered back-to-back will limit the number of trips you need to make to campus each day. 
  • Use your breaks between classes productively
  • Get involved on campus outside of class
  • Coker University offers a lounge above the Dining Hall
  • An ATM is available in the campus mailroom
  • You can hang out in the WOW Cafe during breaks
  • There is a microwave in the WOW Cafe for anyone to use
  • Commuters can add CobraCash for use at the Dining Hall, WOW Cafe, and We Proudly Serve Starbucks.
  • Students at Coker can rent Eno’s (for free) from the Student Solution Center and relax at the hammock nest
  • LITC has plenty of tables, comfortable chairs, desks, and computers for studying between classes
  • You can work out in the DeLoach Center gym for free!  Your student ID gets you in the door.
  • ALL Coker students get free admission to all athletic events
  • ALL Coker students are a part of the “Cobras Welcome Here” program (discounts at various restaurants around town)
