SHAKESPEARE SHORTS
2nd Annual Alumni Theater Festival

November 2-5, 2000, Black Box Theater

Twelve Coker alumni and current students performed excerpts from 13 of Shakespeare comedies, tragedies and histories, including "Julius Caesar," "As You Like It," "King Lear," "Richard III," "Romeo and Juliet," and "A Midsummer Night's Dream." With the exception of "Henry IV," all the scenes featured two to six characters.

"The production was very stark which emphasized Shakespeare's timeless characters and words,"said Deborah Bloodworth, associate professor of theater.

In addition to the scenes, several actors performed original song parodies based on Shakespearean characters, including "Desdemona" and "Witches Rap."

The actors also conducted workshops on performing Shakespeare that were free and open to the public.
