Coker Covid Policy 2021-22

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Coker has remained committed to the belief that students coming to campus expect, and are entitled to, a safe environment. Similarly, employees deserve a workplace that avoids preventable harms. Recognizing that free vaccination options are readily available throughout the United States:

  • As of August 3, Universal masking requirements and physical distancing will be in place until herd immunity is met as recommended by the CDC (80%).
  • Coker plans to hold in-person classes for the Fall 2021 semester and will continue to observe CDC and SC DHEC recommendations on classroom capacity.
  • Coker will follow all CDC, SCDHEC, and local protocols when reviewing community service and internship opportunities.
  • CDC Guidance for Higher Education

All unvaccinated students must provide proof of a negative Covid-19 test 72 hours prior to arrival to campus. Those who do not will not be able to move in until they have provided a negative test. After campus move in, all unvaccinated Coker students and employees must provide proof of negative tests weekly.

100% Vaccination Rate

The only sure way to return to the typical college experience is if all students, faculty, and staff are vaccinated against the Covid 19 virus.  A 100% vaccination rate allows for us to return to pre-pandemic guidelines.  If a person has a bona fide religious or medical exception, the person will need to provide information that states the reason and supporting documentation.  A committee will review the requests and consider religions with documented objections to vaccination, as well as the individuals vaccination history.

If we reach a 100% vaccination rate the following will occur:

  • Campus mask requirements lifted
  • Covid guest restrictions lifted
  • Full capacity at events
  • Full capacity in the Dining Hall, WOW, We Proudly Serve, public spaces

80% Vaccination Rate

If we reach an 80% vaccination rate the following will occur:

  • Fully vaccinated students and employees who have uploaded their vaccine card are not required to wear face coverings indoors or outdoors. They may return to indoor dining and visiting with each other in the residence halls.
  • Full capacity for indoor and outdoor athletics events without a mask if fully vaccinated.
  • Full capacity at campus celebrations on Davidson Lawn without a mask if fully vaccinated.
  • Students and employees who are not fully vaccinated (including those who receive an exemption) will be required to wear face masks and socially distance indoors and outdoors where social distancing is not possible (i.e. athletics practice). Sanctions will be put into place for those who repeatedly violate this requirement.
  • Unvaccinated students, faculty, and staff will need to Covid test weekly and provide those results to vaccine@coker.edu
  • Fully vaccinated students would not be required to quarantine if contract tracing identifies them as a close contact.
  • Library study rooms would be at 100% capacity and vaccinated students would not be required to wear a face mask in those rooms.
  • Fully vaccinated residential students will be allowed to visit other fully vaccinated residential students in the residence halls, while following masking and social distancing guidelines.
  • Common spaces would open to the campus community.
  • Symptomatic or Covid 19-positive students will be required to vacate campus.  Isolation spaces will not be available.
  • Close contacts who have not tested positive and are not fully vaccinated will be placed in quarantine on campus.

Less Than 80% Vaccination Rate

  • All students, employees, and guests will be required to wear face masks indoors, whether vaccinated or not.  Sanctions will be put into place for those who repeatedly violate this requirement as an individual’s right to autonomy ends when their actions would harm others.
  • Outdoor campus events will require all attendees, whether vaccinated or not, to wear masks. Social distancing must be followed.
  • All residential students must follow masking and social distancing guidelines. Non-residential students and other off-campus guests are not permitted in the residence halls. Room capacities will be strictly enforced.
  • Dining will continue to operate at a reduced capacity.
  • WOW and We Proudly Serve will continue with a reduced capacity.
  • Classrooms will continue with reduced capacity (using CDC guidance of 3-foot social distancing).  Common spaces will follow this guideline.
  • Symptomatic or Covid 19-positive students will be required to vacate campus. Isolation spaces will not be available.
  • Quarantine per CDC will be 10 days post positive test/close contact and three consecutive days symptom free.
  • Close contacts who are not fully vaccinated will be placed in isolation.
  • Unvaccinated students, faculty, and staff will need to Covid test weekly and provide those results to vaccine@coker.edu
