Giving Tuesday is a nationally recognized day of giving, encouraging philanthropy and support of not-for-profit organizations like Coker College.

Coker is participating in Giving Tuesday with our #OneForCoker campaign—a 24-hour marathon of fundraising for valuable campus causes, including student scholarships, undergraduate research, and resources to help our deserving students learn and grow successfully.

Our campus community is made up of many individuals: students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, families, and the greater Hartsville community—but together, we are all #OneForCoker.

Coker has a long-standing tradition of friendly competition between sister classes. Students and alumni with even-numbered graduation years are members of “Violet Power,” while those with odd-numbered graduation years belong to team “Green Machine.”

Historically, these classes have faced off during on-campus challenges like Crew Races and C.O.W. Days. And for 24 hours, beginning at noon on Tuesday, November 27, they’ll race to the top of the fundraising leaderboard on the way to our Giving Tuesday goal of $110,000.

When you make a gift to the Annual Scholarship Fund via our simple online form, you’ll have the option of selecting a designation in support of either GREEN MACHINE or VIOLET POWER. The amount of your gift will be added to your team’s total on the leaderboard.

Gifts in support of class colors, and those without a specific designation, will go directly toward our Annual Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarship support for Coker students based on merit, need, and/or academic achievement.

Every year, Coker awards over $10 million in aid, with 98% of our student body receiving scholarships. This financial assistance makes a college education, and subsequent career success, a possibility for many of our beloved Cobras.

If you wish to donate to another campus cause, we encourage you to do so! Simply select “Other” in the designation menu on the #OneForCoker giving form, and type in the name of the office, department, or project you would like to support.

Yes! Coker is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, so financial gifts made to the college are tax deductible. Upon receiving your gift, we will send you a receipt for your records.

Of course! Any gift you make throughout the fiscal year counts toward your Coker Society membership, including those made for campaigns like #OneForCoker

Absolutely! You’re a member of the Coker family and we value any form of support that you’re able to contribute. If donating isn’t an option for you right now, you can still provide tremendous help through any of the following means:

  • Become a #OneForCoker Advocate
Simply create a GiveCampus account and sign up to become an advocate for #OneForCoker Giving Day 2018. Once you’ve signed into the platform, visit the “Advocates” tab, where you’ll find a shareable link to the campaign, a form for uploading a personal plea video, and more!
  • Spread the Word
Helping to increase awareness around Giving Tuesday and the #OneForCoker campaign is a huge help! Please share the campaign with your friends, families, and fellow alumni. There are a number of resources to help you spread the word through social media and other platforms in our #OneForCoker Community Toolkit.
  • Stay Involved
There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer, attend events, build connections, and stay involved with the Coker community long after your graduation day. The Office of Alumni Engagement can help you find the perfect fit!
  • Tell Your Story
One of the best ways you can support Coker is to let people know how your experience here has impacted your life. Whether you saw growth and new opportunities first-hand through your own Coker education, or watched a loved one explore their personal best within our campus environment—those stories are the heart of our institution. We would love to hear them, and we hope you’ll share them now and throughout the year. #CokerPride!
