Lauren Brailsford

Lauren Brailsford knew Coker was a perfect fit the moment she set foot on campus.

Now, she strives to create that same experience for prospective students as an Intern Ambassador for the Office of Admissions.

And the sophomore criminology and psychology double major’s involvement on campus doesn’t end in Admissions.

Brailsford was nominated to serve as an ambassador, a position that allows current students the opportunity to offer prospective students and their families a student’s point of view of the Coker experience. Once she became involved in the admissions process, she immediately started looking for other ways to be involved on campus. She enjoys each organization she is a part of, and she cannot imagine lightening her extracurricular load as long as her sharp time management skills allow her to maintain balance in her life.

Brailsford, who is also a student athlete, serves on Coker’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee and is a member of the World Scholars, a living and learning community focused on cultivating well-rounded, culturally aware students. In the spirit of one of the College’s oldest traditions, she also serves as a commissioner, helping her “family” of freshmen adjust to college life.

“People ask me how I have enough hours in the day to be a part of so many things,” joked Brailsford, “but, for me, staying busy and making connections with others is what college is all about.”

Brailsford compares life at Coker to living in a mansion with 500 of her closest friends. She believes Coker’s ideal size makes it possible for every student, whether outgoing or reserved, to become integrated into the campus culture and feel right at home. For her, it’s the people who make the Coker experience so special.

“It’s not just a school, it’s a family, and my Coker family has been there for me through the exciting times and the really difficult times,” said Brailsford. “I enjoy paying it forward and giving back to the community that has given me so much.”

So, how does the student who does it all envision her life after Coker? Whether she heads to graduate school in preparation for a career in higher education or studies abroad on a Fulbright scholarship, Brailsford is confident she will be ready for whatever the future holds.

“I’ve had so many opportunities at Coker to learn new skills and to just grow as a person,” said Brailsford. “My friends at other schools worry they’ll be lost after graduation, but not me. I know I’m going to be prepared for what comes next.”
