Accelerated Learning Opportunities

Students must request permission and approval for enrolling in PULSE ALO courses with the principal of his/her school. Students must formally apply to the ALO program for participation in particular courses.

Acceptance is based on appropriate preparation to succeed in the course, as judged by the instructor, and appropriate commitment to succeed as judged by the PULSE coordinator. The ALO program is extremely rigorous. The class instructor determines admission to a particular course according to the student’s readiness to succeed. The instructor reviews the student’s previous academic work as reflected on official transcripts or letters of recommendation. The instructor also supplements this review by testing and/or auditioning relevant to the course for which the student is applying. Participation in the ALO program is a privilege, not a right. The student and his or her parent(s) or guardian(s) must sign a commitment to meet the standards of participation in the program, including commitment to perform all work assigned on time and to the best of the student’s ability. The student must meet the attendance, academic and department conditions of the course(s) on a continuing basis. Coker courses are offered at Coker College. Parents and students interested in ALO courses should contact the PULSE coordinator at the school where the courses are offered. Students in the Darlington County schools, not living in the Hartsville attendance area, may seek permission and approval of the principal of his/her school to enroll in a PULSE ALO course. These students must pay the tuition for approved courses.
