Fifth Annual Celebration of Academics Scheduled

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – March 19, 2014 – Continuing a tradition that began in 2011 at Coker College President Robert Wyatt’s inauguration, Coker will host a campus-wide Celebration of Academics March 24–26.

“The Celebration is uniquely Coker,” said Jennifer Borgo, assistant professor of biology and coordinator of the event. “It is a time to showcase and recognize the amazing work of our faculty and students. Our community gains a greater understanding of our accomplishments and contributions, and we can see how our individual successes all come together to enrich the college as a whole.

“My hope is that the Celebration of Academics will inspire our students through seeing all the work done by their classmates. In addition, it's just great fun! I enjoy watching students shine in their areas of interest, and there is always a good laugh or two mixed in.”

Among the many presentations in this year’s celebration is a lecture by Sara Odom, retiring professor of education and coordinator of the elementary education major in the Wiggins School of Education, plus several presentations of student research and service-learning projects and more than a dozen presentations of student-faculty research projects.

The culminating event, Coker’s annual Performing Arts Showcase, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 26 in Watson Theater of the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center.
