Mindy Taylor Elected to Coker Board of Trustees

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Oct. 29, 2013 – Mindy Taylor, Duke Energy district manager for government and community relations, has been elected to the Coker College Board of Trustees.

As district manager for Florence, Darlington, Chesterfield, Horry, Georgetown, Marion, Dillon and Marlboro counties, Taylor is responsible for issue management, public relations, corporate contributions and community relations.

“Knowing how busy Mindy is, and how seriously she will take this responsibility, we are truly grateful that Mindy has made her personal service to the college a priority,” said Coker College President Robert Wyatt. “Mindy is an extraordinary person – blessed with boundless energy, a sharp wit and excellent judgment – and I look forward to welcoming her to the board.”

“I am honored to join the Coker College Board of Trustees,” Taylor said. “Having worked closely with President Wyatt through the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce in recent years, I have developed a deeper appreciation for the treasure that Coker College represents, not only to our community but to this region of the South as well. I value Dr. Wyatt’s leadership and am eager to be a part of the fine programs he and his team are building here.”

Taylor graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in economics.  Upon graduation, she began working with Progress Energy in residential and commercial sales in their Rockingham, N.C., office. During her career at Progress Energy, Taylor had served as an area manager for a six-county area in North and South Carolina and also as the manager of community relations for a 13-county region in South Carolina.  With the merger of Duke Energy and Progress Energy in 2012, Taylor was named a district manager for an eight-county region in the Pee Dee area of South Carolina.

In 2000, Taylor was one of 100 women nationwide to receive the 2000 Saturn Women at Their Best Award, which was sponsored by Saturn Corporation and Glamour Magazine.  She also received the Woman of Achievement Award for Business and Industry, given by the Girl Scout Council of the Pee Dee Area, and she graduated from Leadership South Carolina in 2006.

Taylor and her husband, Bill, live in Florence and have three grown children.

The Coker College Board of Trustees meets quarterly and maintains broad responsibility for the mission, long-range direction, policies, and financial condition of the institution.
