Coker Hosting Authentic Leadership Conference

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Sept. 25, 2013 – Coker College will serve as host for the Thelma Barnes Sowell Learning & Tennis Center’s “Authentic Leadership – A Dialogue with Generations of Men & Women” conference from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 in Watson Theater.

“We are excited about our partnership with Coker to host this event for the second consecutive year,” said Pat Harris, vice president of McDonald’s USA and founder of the TBS Learning & Tennis Center. “This is a great opportunity for all generations of men and women to talk about authentic leadership, and I encourage people of all ages to come participate. It will be a very engaging conference that is guaranteed to provide learning opportunities for everyone.”

Members of the Coker academic and administration teams will be speaking at the event, including Robert Wyatt, president of the college; Tracy Parkinson, provost and dean of the faculty; and Jim Lemke, professor of political science and philosophy.

Other speakers include Hattie Hill, CEO of Hattie Hill Enterprises, LLC; Haven Cockerham, president and CEO of Cockerham and Associates; Sporty King, president of R. King and Associates; Dennis McDaniels, principal of McBee High School; Maria Romero, board chair at TBS Learning & Tennis Center; and Bea Bolton, executive director of the TBS Learning & Tennis Center.

Tickets for the event are $30 for adults and $20 for students. Admission includes a continental breakfast, lunch and a closing reception. Students interested in attending can contact Marsha Eide in the provost’s office at 843-383-8176.
