Coker to Host K9-5K During Homecoming 2012

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Sept. 2, 2012 – Community members, students and alumni, racing with or without their canine companions, are invited to participate in Coker’s second K9-5K at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. The race will begin and end at the campus entrance in front of Davidson Hall.

The race is open to runners and walkers of all ages.

The K9-5K race is administered by the Carolina Running Company, whose vision is to help grow a culture of running and physical activity within the community. All proceeds will benefit the Darlington Humane Society.

“Our primary goal is to increase student participation as part of our students’ ongoing efforts to establish holistic, healthy lifestyles,” said Brandon Fain, director of intramurals and COBRAFIT, a campus program for students, faculty and staff that is designed to encourage healthy lifestyles. “We also hope to see a continuation of the amazing community support we enjoyed last year.  As an overall target, we’d like to see 300 or more participants join the race in support of the Humane Society.”

Participants can pre-register through Sept. 24 or register on race day, per the following prices:

An awards ceremony and celebration will be held after the race, at about 9:15 a.m.
