HARTSVILLE, S.C. – On Wednesday, November 10, Coker College’s Director of Athletics Lynn Griffin will receive one of the highest honors that the Indiana Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AHPERD) can bestow, the Pathfinder Award.

Given to just one female member of Indiana AHPERD each year, the Pathfinder Award was established to honor members of Indiana AHPERD and National Association for Girls and Women in Sport who have and/or continue to advocate, recruit and enhance opportunities for girls and women in sport and sport leadership.

“I am deeply honored to receive such a tremendous award,” said Griffin. “I have always tried my very best to be a leader and an advocate for women in sport, but to be considered a pathfinder is a true honor.”

Prior to becoming the leader of Coker Athletics in July, Griffin spent seven years at the University of Indianapolis serving as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Compliance Coordinator and Senior Woman Administrator.

Along with receiving the Pathfinder Award, Griffin has had the distinct pleasure of being named the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) Administrator of the Year in 2008.

“We are thrilled that Lynn’s commitment to providing high-quality sport and leadership opportunities for females has been recognized by AHPERD,” said Coker President Dr. Robert Wyatt.  “Her work in Indiana, and now Hartsville, helps ensure that our students are healthy and are ready to meet the leadership challenges of our ever-changing world.”

Coker College readies undergraduates for personal and professional success through a distinctive four-year program that emphasizes a practical application of the liberal arts as well as hands-on and discussion-based learning within and beyond the classroom. Coker is ranked among the “Best Colleges” in the South by U.S. News & World Report as well as The Princeton Review. Located in Hartsville, S.C., Coker is within two hours of the cultural, financial and recreational resources of Charlotte, Columbia, Charleston and Myrtle Beach.
