Coker College Seeks Provost

Coker College invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost.  Serving as the chief academic officer for the College and reporting directly to the President, the Provost is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, review and administration of all educational programs. 

The Provost also serves as the primary representative and advocate for the faculty within the administration and as the ranking college officer in the absence of the President. Specific responsibilities include directing academic program, instructional and strategic planning; providing leadership to all departmental chairs and senior academic support staff; directing administrative goal setting, scheduling and budgeting functions; and articulating the vision of the college.  The Provost serves as a liaison with internal and external constituencies, including the Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, staff, alumni, students, parents, and the community. 

Coker College, located in picturesque Hartsville, SC., recently celebrated its 100th anniversary and named Dr. Robert Wyatt as its 16th President.  Coker is a student-centered, comprehensive college dedicated to providing every student an academic curriculum based on an excellent liberal arts core.   The diverse co-ed student body, which originates from 27 states and 9 foreign countries, has a total of approximately 1150 students in the traditional undergraduate program and the Adult Learners Program for Higher Achievement. Coker also has one of the smallest average class sizes in the country and currently offers 29 majors, 23 minors, and study abroad opportunities. The College competes athletically, with 14 varsity programs, in the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas. 

The successful candidate will have an earned Doctoral degree with continued academic engagement in their chosen discipline. Also required will be demonstrated success as an administrator in higher education; commitment to excellent teaching and service; strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills; and experience in strategic planning, academic program development, fiscal planning, and resource development and management. This visionary leader will be dedicated to the core principles of a liberal arts education, and will passionately promote the mission, vision, identity, spirit and values of Coker College.
