Coker is Ready for 2010 Homecoming Celebration

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College’s 2010 Homecoming celebration is set for Friday and Saturday, October 1-2. The annual event brings Coker family, friends and alumni together for a weekend full of fun and excitement.

The Homecoming events will begin on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. with the Coker volleyball team taking on Conference Carolinas rival Erskine College in the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium. Admission to the game is free.

In addition to the volleyball game at 6:00 p.m., the Coker Alumni Association will be hosting an Alumni Reception on the patio at Bizzell’s Restaurant for the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and 30th Reunion classes.

Following the Cobra volleyball match and Alumni Reception, the Coker Student Government Association will be hosting a bonfire and concert in the Byerly lot starting at 8:00 p.m.

Homecoming will kick into high gear on Saturday starting with the Cobra Chase 5k Race at 8:00 a.m. in front of Davidson Hall. Following the Cobra Chase will be the Men’s and Women’s Alumni Basketball Game at 11:00 a.m. and the Alumni Baseball Game at noon.

At 4:00 p.m., the signature events of Coker’s Homecoming celebration begin with the women’s soccer team taking on Chowan University at the Coker Soccer Field. During halftime of the game, Coker will present Reverend Gregory Batchelor, class of 2000, with the Outstanding Young Alumni Award, and the Coker Athletic Department will induct the 1994 Cobra Baseball Team into the Coker Athletic Hall of Fame.

The Coker men will take the field against Chowan starting at 6:00 p.m. with the annual crowning of the Coker Homecoming Court taking place during halftime.

To finish off the day, everyone is invited to head to Downtown Hartsville for Jazz! Carolina following the completion of the men’s soccer game.
