Coker Honors Top Ophthalmologist with Alumni Award

 

 

Hartsville, S.C. — Ophthalmologist Priscilla Perry Arnold of Blue Eye, Mo., is the recipient of Coker College’s 2010 Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award.  A 1971 Coker College graduate, Arnold is in private practice at Eye Surgeons Associates of the Quad Cities in Iowa and Illinois.  Arnold grew up in Marion County, S.C.

“I cherish my years at Coker College and truly appreciate the education I received there,” said Arnold. “Without a doubt, Coker helped prepare me for the experience of medical training and practice, and for the many challenges and opportunities we all encounter in life.”

Arnold’s specialty interests include the surgical treatment of cataracts with the latest lens implant technology. She was recognized as one of the Best Doctors in America for cataract surgery from 2007-2009, and she was named one of America’s Best Ophthalmologists in 2007, 2008 and 2009.  The American Academy of Ophthalmology has presented Arnold with several achievement awards, including its prestigious Senior Honor and Secretariat awards.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology & the American College of Surgeons, Arnold has served as President of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery and the American Board of Eye Surgery.  She is active in numerous other national medical organizations.

After receiving her bachelor’s degrees in biology from Coker College, Arnold earned her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, graduating with honors. She completed her residency at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans.

Arnold and her husband, Paul,  practice ophthalmology together, and also enjoy spending time at their home on Table Rock Lake in southern Missouri.  In 1985, Arnold received Coker College's Outstanding Young Alumni Award.
