Coker’s annual musical theater production is Spring Awakening (2006). Winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening is a rock musical adaptation of Frank Wedekind's 1891 expressionist play about the trials, tribulations, and exhilaration of adolescence. With music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater, Spring Awakening explores the confusion and desperation that ensue when the onrushing tide of hormones meets the ignorance of children. Directed by Kindra Steenerson and with musical direction by Graham Wood, Spring Awakening celebrates the unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with power, poignancy, and passion.
