COURSES OFFERED:

This is an intensive immersion summer course in Mandarin Chinese. It focuses on everyday conversation for students at the 100-level. The students will take this course at Capital Normal University in Beijing, China. Besides taking two hour classes every weekday, the students will also practice Chinese with his or her Chinese partner and will experience basic oral communication in a Chinese-speaking environment. No prior knowledge of Chinese language and culture is required.

This is a 200-level intensive immersion summer course where students will further develop their skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing by practicing Chinese and experiencing Chinese culture in authentic Chinese settings. The students will be taking this course at Capital Normal University in Beijing, China. Besides taking two hour classes every weekday, the students will also practice Chinese with his (her) Chinese partner and experience oral communication in a Chinese-speaking environment.

This is a unique Chinese culture course which will be taken at Capital Normal University in Beijing. This course consists of four parts: Tai Chi; Chinese Calligraphy and painting; the history of famous sites in Beijing; and the customs of Chinese people. The students will also experience Chinese culture by visiting the historical sites and common Chinese people’s home. The three instructors for the class are a Chinese Tai Chi master, a Chinese calligraphy and painting expert, and a Chinese history professor from Capital Normal University. English translation will be provided. No prior knowledge of Chinese language and culture is required.
