The mission of the Charles W. and Joan S. Coker Library-Information Technology Center is to support the academic and research needs of the Coker College students and faculty. Although the vast majority of the LITC is devoted to library services and resources, the building also houses the Information Technology Department, the Writer's Studio, the James Daniels Boardroom, the Faculty Research Room, and Java City.

Archives (2nd floor)
The college archives are located in the library. In addition to administrative material, there are many interesting items from the college's 100 year history.
Art Collection (2nd floor)
Located at the top of the stairs, this collection has books on drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, art history, and more.
Audio-Visual Collection (1st floor)
Located near Java City, our CDs, DVDs, Microfilm/fiche, and VHS await your perusal.
College and Career Planning
This collection of books is focused on helping students during and after their undergraduate degree. Topics include: writing, and study skills; applying to graduate school; careers; resumes; financial assistance.
Curriculum Materials Center (2nd floor)
The collection includes materials approved by the South Carolina Dept. of Education, and consists of about thousands of items such as textbooks, software items, CDs, audio cassettes, video cassettes, DVDs, and kits. The CMC is located upstairs, facing the student union building.
Electronic Resources (24/7 online)
These consist of about almost 70 research databases with full-text access to over 32,000 journals, newspapers and magazines; over 105,000 eBooks; hundreds of online reference books, and 80 CD-ROMS.
Juvenile Collection (2nd floor)
Our juvenile books support the Children's Literature course and various education courses, and are located near the Curriculum Materials Room.
Kalmia Gardens (Kalmia)
A collection of about 725 books are housed in 3 buildings on the gardens property.
Local and College History
About 30 books relating to the history of the college, the Coker family, Sonoco, and Hartsville are located on the 1st floor. Books written by members of the Coker family are shelved in their related areas in the circulating collection on the 2nd floor.
Main Collection (2nd floor)
The heart of our circulating collection lives upstairs.
Oversize (2nd floor)
Books that are either too tall or too deep for the regular shelves are housed separated at the very end of the Art Collection.
Print Periodicals (1st floor)
The library subscribes to 101 print periodicals and 3 newspapers.
Recreational Reading (1st floor)
Located just outside Java City, the collection has hundreds of popular titles.
Reference (1st floor)
Approximately 2569 reference volumes are in the collection.
Scores (1st floor)
About 2125 scores are available.
Alexa Bartel, Director, 383-8126 (Associate Professor)
Alexa worked as a Reference Librarian at Coker from 2002-04, and then returned to the library as Director in August 2007. She spent the interim three years as Head Librarian at Central Carolina Technical College. Alexa oversees all aspects of library operations, and provides library instruction and reference assistance. Nancy Matthews, Acquisitions and Cataloging Coordinator, 383-8128
Nancy has been with the library since 1984. Her responsibilities include all aspects of ordering new library materials as well as overseeing the processing and cataloging tasks performed by the day library assistant. She is also responsible for gifts received by the library, and for performing book repairs. BA (Education), Coker College, 1976

Rachael Minus, Evening and Weekend Library Assistant (part-time), 383-8125
Kay joined the library in March 2011. She assists patrons with their basic circulation and basic computer needs on weekends and during the evenings. Kay is a retired Park Ranger for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and has an Associates Degree in Business from Northeastern Technical College.
Rachael joined the library in June 2011. She assists patrons with their basic circulation and basic computer needs on weekends and during the evenings. She was employed with the Writer's Studio from 2009-2010 and still assists with editing papers and manuscripts in her free time. BS (English), Coker College, 2011.

Brandy Roscoe, Library Assistant, 383-8125 and 8193
Brandy began working at the library just after graduating from Coker in the summer of 2008. In addition to staffing the desk much of the time, she assists the public services staff with their duties. Jared Theismann, Evening LIbrary Supervisor, 383-8127
Jared joined the library in August 2012. His responsibilities include supervision of two part time evening assistants and work study students, general circulation desk duties, special projects, and serials management. He is a proud University of Alabama graduate (BA in Music Performance, 2006.)
Margaret Theismann, Day Library Assistant, 383-8194
Margaret joined the library staff in October 2006. Margaret's primary responsibility is to assist Nancy Matthews with cataloging. She also helps at the public services desk by assisting students and faculty with circulation, copying, scanning, and computer needs. She brings with her seven years of library experience as a previous employee of the Hartsville Memorial Library.
