This plan provides Residence Life with a means to respond to tornado watches and warnings for residential students.

Initial Response and Notification

1. A weather radio is placed and monitored in the Student Services Office and Residence Life Office during normal hours of operation.  

2. In the event of a tornado watch (weather conditions are conducive to the formation of tornados):
1. The first person to become aware of the potential weather threat should contact the following in the listed order: Campus Life On-Call Staff Member, Director of Residence Life, and Security via telephone to alert them of the situation.
2. The Director of Residence Life should contact the Resident Assistants via telephone to notify them of the potential weather threat. The Resident Assistants will turn on staff walkie-talkies upon receipt of the phone call. If the Director of Residence Life is not available the Campus Life On-Call Staff Member would be responsible.
3. The Director of Residence Life will alert Resident Assistants when the watch is upgraded to a warning via the walkie-talkies.

3. In the event of a tornado warning (a tornado has been spotted in the area):
1. The first person to become aware of the weather threat should contact the Campus Life on-Call Staff Member, Director of Residence Life, and Security via telephone to alert them of the situation.
2. The Director of Residence Life should contact the Resident Assistants via staff walkie-talkies to notify them of the weather threat. If the Director of Residence Life is not available the Campus Life On-Call Staff Member would be responsible.
3. Resident Assistants will alert the residents on their floor of the weather threat and all present should evacuate to the appropriate location (see below). Resident Assistants should take staff walkie-talkies with them upon evacuation.
   
   
   • Memorial 1st Floor - 1st floor Memorial hallway
   • Memorial 2nd Floor - 2nd floor Memorial hallway
   • Memorial 3rd Floor - 2nd floor Memorial hallway
   • Belk 1st Floor Belk hallway, away from windows and doors
   • Coker - Coker Basement hallway
   • Grannis 1st Floor - 1st Grannis hallway from elevator to RA room
   • Grannis 2nd Floor - 1st Grannis hallway from elevator to RA room
   • Grannis 3rd Floor - 2nd Grannis hallway from elevator to RA room
   • Grannis 4th Floor - 2nd Grannis hallway from elevator to RA room
   • RTC - 1st floor RTC interior stairwell

4. The Director of Residence Life or Campus Life On-Call Staff Member will inform the Resident Assistants when the warning has passed.
