Praxis Information
Welcome to the Praxis Information page. Our hope is to provide you with information to aid in registering and preparing for the Praxis tests.
The Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST®) measure basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics and include multiple-choice questions and an essay question on the Writing test. The tests are designed to evaluate whether you have the academic skills needed to prepare for a career in education. These tests are offered in computer-based and paper-based formats.
To register for Praxis I computer-based tesing, please call Prometric Testing Center in Florence at 843-667-3227. Not only will you register and pay your fees through them, they will work with you to arrange a testing appointment that meets your schedule. If you live out of state or in another area of the state, there are other testing sites available on the ETS link below.
Praxis II Subject Assessments measure knowledge of specific subjects that K–12 educators will teach, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. These tests are available in paper-based format only and are offered on pre-scheduled dates throughout the year.
To register for paper-based testing for Praxis I or Praxis II, please consult the ETS link listed below. There you will find a form you may print and mail in with your fee, or you may register online and pay with a credit or debit card. If you want to apply for a fee waiver, you must take the paper-based tests. If you need help with knowing which tests to register for, consult the second website, SC Required Exams. If you need further assistance after consulting these sites, please call the Department of Education at 843-383-8131.
