Compliance Certification Section 2.1

Degree-Granting Authority

The institution has degree-granting authority from the appropriate government agency or agencies.

Coker College is in compliance.

Coker College was chartered by the South Carolina Secretary of State in 1908 [564] as "Coker College for Women", and in 1970 as "Coker College" [563], when it became coeducational.

The College is exempt from licensing by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education via Title 59, Chapter 58, Section 30(1), South Carolina Code of Laws, 1976, as amended (Act 497, 1992 General Assembly), which provides an exemption for institutions chartered prior to 1953. A recent letter from the Commission confirms this in [719].
