For each of these artworks, duplicates were made of the portion incorporating letters to governments guilty of human rights abuses. These duplicate artworks were mailed to the countries and individuals to whom they were addressed.
In 1989, Chinese students gathered en masse in Tiananmen Square to demand democratic reforms. An enduring image from these demonstrations was the 33 foot sculpture of the Statue of Liberty facing a large portrait of Mao ZeDong.
