Round Table Learning

Discussion is an important part of the educational process, and Coker's nationally recognized round table learning experience takes it to the next level. While you find a highly personalized learning experience in all of Coker's classrooms, many classes literally take place "in the round."

In a round table classroom, you and your classmates create a circle of learning with your professor. Sometimes this is named the Socratic Method after the Greek philosopher Socrates.

The Round Table learning style encourages the discussion and sharing of ideas, which develops confidence and builds communication and leadership skills. We like to think of it as inspiring discussion, the sharing of thoughts and ideas - the way learning should be.

Smart Parents Guide to College (Peterson's, 1996. Boyer, et al.) identifies Coker College's Round Table classrooms as a model learning experience. Coker officially instituted its round table classrooms in 1985.
