Soccer Coach Wins Coker College Young Alumni Award

Hartsville, S.C. - The Coker College Alumni Association has presented Randy Strawser, Class of 1984, with its Outstanding Young Alumni Award for 2005. College President Dr. Jim Dawson gave Strawser the award at Coker's homecoming recently.

A dedicated soccer coach and teacher, Strawser is the Assistant Athletics Director for Publicity and Women’s Soccer Coach at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He has also taught and coached at Westmont College in California, and Mount Olive College and Appalachian State University in North Carolina.

Strawser holds an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and a "B License" from the United States Soccer Federation. He was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2003.

After graduating from Coker, Strawser earned a master’s degree in physical education and health from Appalachian State. As a student at Coker, he majored in physical education and played on the inaugural men’s soccer team in 1980. He was also a four-time team captain and, in 1984, he earned the college’s C. G. Timberlake Athlete of the Year award.

At his graduation in 1984, Strawser received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, one of the college’s highest honors presented in recognition of excellence of character and service to humanity. In 1999, Strawser was inducted into the Coker College Athletics Hall of Fame.
