Hartsville, SC Coker College is hosting the South Carolina Junior Academy of Science Fall 2005 Workshop, “Get Real: Science in the Real World,” on Saturday, September 17. The workshop is open to all high school students and teachers interested in science, engineering, math and technology. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Robert M. Panoff, founder and executive director of The Shodor Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to science and math education based in Durham, N.C.
Panoff
will discuss “Thinking with Numbers: Using Models to Better Understand
the World Around Us” at 9:15 a.m. in the Watson Theater of the Elizabeth
Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center. Panoff is a frequent presenter
on visualization, supercomputing, and networking, and he serves as consultant
for the education program at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications
at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has served on the
advisory panel for Applications of Advanced Technology program at the
National Science Foundation. -30-
