Hartsville, S.C. – The Coker College Singers will celebrate their centennial - and the college's - with a performance of two popular works by Antonia Vivaldi and Johannes Brahms on Sunday, April 13 at 4:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Hartsville. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

Directed by Dr. William Carswell and accompanied by an orchestra, the Coker Singers will perform Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and Brahms’s “A German Requiem,” two of the most beloved works in the choral repertoire. “Gloria” is a classic example of sacred music pulled from the traditional Latin mass during the Baroque era. Uniquely, “A German Requiem” seeks to provide spiritual consolation for the living and it was inspired by Protestant traditions.

The Coker Singers spring concert will also feature three guest soloists. They are soprano Serena Hill, voice instructor at Coker College, mezzo-soprano Brittnee Siemon, a member of Columbia College faculty, and baritone Raphael Rada, a Winthrop University faculty member.

Founded in 1908, the Coker Singers is the premiere choral ensemble of the College. The Coker Singers have performed all over the United States, including New York, Atlanta, New Orleans, Birmingham, and throughout the Carolinas. Other recent engagements include performances at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC, and at Carnegie Hall.

Throughout 2008, Coker College is marking its centennial with a series of events celebrating the Coker experience. For more information, call 843-383-8018 or visit www.coker.edu/100.
