Hartsville, SC — The Coker College Dance Program will hold its annual spring concert showcasing original student and faculty choreography from Thursday, April 7 though Saturday, April 9 at 8 p.m. in Watson Theater of the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center. Admission at the door is $6 for adults, $3 for children and non-Coker students, and free with a Coker College ID.

Dance majors Karen Horton, Jessica Brill, and Jodi Williams will present their senior thesis projects as part of the concert. Horton’s “Cries of Persecution” features music from the “Passion of the Christ” soundtrack. Brill’s “A Story of Alzheimer’s” deals with the degenerative process of the disease and uses music from the soundtrack of “Lord of the Rings,” while “Glowing with Fun” is an abstract work by Williams that uses techno music and visual effects, including glow sticks. Horton is a resident of Hunstville, Ala., Brill is a resident of Birmingham, Ala., and Williams is from York, S.C.

Four other dances will be performed in the spring concert in addition to the senior thesis works. Guest artist Travis Gatling from Ohio University choreographed a duet, “Beneath the Surface: Portraits of a Woman” that will feature Coker dance professors Wanda Ebright and Angelo Gallo. Another guest piece entitled “Ralph” by Leonard Anderson, director of dance at Charleston County School of the Arts, will be performed by the students of the Coker Repertory Dance Company. Ebright and Gallo have also choreographed two pieces for the concert: a ballet entitled “Enchantee” and “For You, Anna,” a contemporary trio, respectively.

Coker’s Dance Program just hosted the American College Dance Festival's Southeast Conference. The conference was attended by over 400 dancers from 25 colleges and universities from throughout the South.
