Hartsville, S.C. — Coker College will hold its eighth annual
social work conference, “Developing Our Own Assets: Recognizing
Social Work Success”, on Friday, October 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. on campus. The conference will address a variety of topics, including
gangs, child advocacy, and supervised living for the mentally ill. Conference
attendees with state social work licenses can earn 5.5 general contact
hours.
Dr. Nancy Randolph, a practicing social worker, consultant, administrator,
teacher, and a world-wide lecturer on social work issues, will deliver
the keynote address at 9:30 a.m. in the Watson Theater of the Elizabeth
Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center.
Randolph received the W. E.
B Dubois Medallion from Board of Trustees of Harvard University in 2000.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University, a Master
of Social Service degree from Smith College, and a Ph.D. from University
of Alabama. Randolph has served as the Director of the Division of Standards
and Accreditation for the Council on Social Work Education. She is a
member of the Commission on Human Rights in Alabama and the National
Urban League.
Conference session and workshop leaders include Patricia
White of the Darlington County Police Department, Niki Chapman of the
Billy Hardee Home for Boys, Merri-Shannon Lunn of the S.C. Department
Social Services, and Ronald Pope of the S.C. Department of Mental Health.
