“In Celebration of Social Work: Honor Our Past, Imagine Our Future,” on
Friday, October 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This year’s keynote speaker
will be Dr. Frank Raymond, Dean Emeritus of the College of Social Work
at University of South Carolina. Conference attendees with state social
work licenses can earn up to 5.5 re-licensure hours.
The conference includes three sessions of workshops addressing a variety
of topics, including “Equine Facilitated Therapy,” “Planning in Advance

Social Work: AIDS in South Africa.” A final panel session will discuss
“Planning for the Future of Social Work.”
Raymond was Dean of the College of Social Work at the University of South
Carolina from 1980 until his retirement in 2002. Under his tenure, the
college became one of the highest rated social work programs in the country.
It quadrupled in size, expanded academic programs, pioneered study-abroad
and international educational partnerships, and lead the way in the use
of technology for social workers.
Prior to entering social work education Raymond held professional practice
positions with the Virginia Department of Social Services, the VA Hospital
system, the Federal Probation system, the Tulane Medical School, and the
Louisiana Narcotics Rehabilitation Commission.
