Hartsville, S.C. — International peace worker Arthur Romano will speak at Coker College on Monday, March 19 at 7 p.m. in the C. W. Coker Auditorium in Davidson Hall. He will discuss non-violence and the methods of Martin Luther King and Mohandas Gandhi. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. Romano is founder of Youth for Peace, an Internet-based initiative that provides opportunities for young people around the world to share information and inspiration. He has also worked with the United Nations, the Scottish parliament, and a many non-governmental organizations. In the United States, Romano has worked to increase cross-cultural and interfaith understanding. His efforts include promoting dialogue and focusing on face-to-face diplomacy and exchange. On Tuesday, March 20 from 11 am to 1 p.m. in the Drawing Room at Coker College, Romano will hold a free workshop for anyone interested in non-violent social change. The workshop will move beyond theoretical talk by finding practical ways to increase peace directly in the community by challenging injustice and visioning alternative possibilities.
