Hartsville, SC — Coker College Theater presents the Tony Award-winning play “Proof” at 8 p.m. Friday, November 19 and Saturday, November 20 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 21 in the Black Box Theater of the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center. Admission at the door is $6 for adults, $3 for children under 18, and free with Coker College ID.

Written by David Auburn, “Proof” won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2001, in addition to a Tony. Set on a back porch in present day Chicago, “Proof” is about mathematics and mental illness. In the play, Catherine, a woman in her mid-20s, is struggling with the recent death of her math genius father, a new love interest, and her overbearing sister.

The cast of Coker students in the “Proof” are sophomore Eric Decker as the eccentric Robert, junior Wesley Atkinson as Hal, a math student, and sophomore Jillian Wiggins as the older sister, Claire. The role of Catherine is double-cast with sophomores Joanna Palmer and Gabrielle Blue. The actresses are alternating performances for this weekend’s production at Coker College and last week’s preview of the play at the South Carolina Theater Conference in Spartanburg.

“Proof” at Coker is directed by Deborah Bloodworth, associate professor of theater. The lighting design is by Adam Weiner, associate professor of theater and Coker’s technical director, and art professor Jim Boden designed the set. Senior Bryant Herring is the stage manager.
