Hartsville, SC — The Coker College Music Program presents a Faculty Voice Recital by soprano Serena Hill, accompanied by Jun Matsuo, on Thursday, October 14 at 8 p.m. in the Watson Theater of the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center. Admission is free.

The recital will include selected works by Dominick Argento, Claude Debussy, Joaquin Turina, Libby Larsen, and Charles-Francois Gounod. Songs include Argento’s “Six Elizabethan Songs,” Debussy’s “Ariettes Oubliée” and “L’Isle Joyeuse,” and Gounod’s “Ô Dieu! Que de bijoux!…Ah! Je ris de me voir si belle” from “Faust.”

Hill, who teaches voice at Coker, won the 2004 Palmetto Opera Competition and was a finalist at the 2004 Florida Suncoast Opera Guild Competition. She won the University of South Carolina Young Artist Concerto Aria Competition in 2003, and was the finalist in the 2003 Southeast Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions and the 2003 Orpheus National Young Artist Vocal Competition. Hill holds a master’s of music in vocal performance from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s of music degree from the University of North Alabama.

Accompanist Matsuo received a BA in music from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a master’s of music in piano performance from Binghamton University. She holds a doctor of musical arts in piano pedagogy from the University of South Carolina. A teacher and accompanist at Presbyterian College, Matsuo’s former instructors include Kathryn Stuart, Peter Takacs and Walter Ponce.
