Hartsville, SC—The Coker Singers and the Coker Chamber Singers present their annual spring concert on Tuesday, April 19 at 8 p.m. in Watson Theater of the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

The program will include selected works by Alessandro Scarlatti , Franz Schubert, George Frideric Handel, Felix Mendelssohn, Richard Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim, among others. The concert will be conducted by Dr. William Carswell, assistant professor of music, and the accompanist will be Sarah Carlson, adjunct professor or music. The program will also feature a solo by voice professor Serena Hill, soprano, and a duet by Hill and voice student Bryant Belin, baritone. Belin is a junior from Hartsville majoring in music education.

Senior music major Brandis White of Columbia will debut as a student conductor for one song. Ben Johnson, a senior communications major from Columbia, will also debut as conductor.

The Coker Singers, founded in 1908, is the official choral performing organization of Coker College. The group has performed throughout the Carolinas and in Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, New Orleans, Washington, DC, and New York, including concerts at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Carnegie Hall.

The Coker Chamber Singers is the newest choral ensemble at Coker College. The group consists of 14 auditioned singers who study and perform choral chamber works from all musical periods. The ensemble travels with the Coker Singers for special performances throughout the year.
