Hartsville, S.C. — The Coker Singers, the official choral ensemble of Coker College, are performing at the Koger Center for the Arts in Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21. The group will sing “Belshazzar's Feast” by William Walton with the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra and the Columbia Choral Society.

This performance marks the end of Maestro Nicholas Smith’s 14 seasons with the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra. “Belshazzar's Feast” was performed during his first season with the orchestra and Smith has chosen it to end his tenure in Columbia. The Coker Singers will be joining the 80-member Columbia Choral Society, both directed by Dr. William Carswell, assistant professor of music at Coker College.

The concert will also include “An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise” by Maxwell Davies, “Cello Concerto” by Edward Elgar.

Founded in 1908, the Coker Singers is the premiere choral ensemble of Coker College and is comprised of music majors and students at large. In addition to local concerts, the Coker Singers have performed in Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, New Orleans, New York and throughout the Carolinas. The Coker Singers have recently performed at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC, and in New York City at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Carnegie Hall.
