Hartsville, SC - The Coker Singers, the premiere choral ensemble of
Coker College, are performing in Washington, DC, and New York for their
annual spring concert tour May 26 through May 31. The Coker Singers
will perform selections by Brahms, Gawthorp and Fauré, among
others, in the Upper Senate Park at the United States Capitol in Washington,
DC, at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26. They will repeat that performance
on Friday, May 28 in the Cathedral of St. Patrick in New York at 1:30
p.m. on Friday, May 28. On Monday, May 31 at 8 p.m. in Carnegie Hall,
the Coker Singers will join a full orchestra and combined choirs for
a concert of John Rutter’s “Requiem”. The Coker Singers are directed
by Dr. William Carswell, assistant professor of music.
The Upper Senate Park and
the St. Patrick’s Cathedral concerts are free. Admission to the Carnegie
Hall Concert is $35-$85 and tickets are available by calling CarnegieCharge

Founded in 1908, the Coker
Singers is a select group of music majors, minors and students at large.
The choir gives several performances a year as the official choral performing
organization of Coker College. The Coker Singers have performed in Atlanta,
Birmingham, Nashville, New Orleans, and throughout the Carolinas. The
group has collaborated with the Palmetto Mastersingers and the Charleston
Symphony Orchestra.
