SOUTHEAST CONFERENCE
Coker College · March 30 - April 3, 2005

Taylor 2

Hartsville, S.C. — Dance enthusiasts have a rare opportunity to enjoy three concerts that are being performed at Coker College as part of the 2005 American College Dance Festival (ACDF) Southeast Conference, which Coker is hosting from Wednesday, March 30 to Sunday, April 3.

The concerts are in the Watson Theater of the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center. Admission is $5 at the door for the general public.

The first concert will be New York-based Taylor 2 on Thursday, March 31 at 8:30 p.m. The second concert will be the Southeastern Showcase Concert on Friday, April 1 at 8:30 p.m. The third will be the Gala Concert on Saturday, April 2 at 8:30 p.m.

Taylor 2 is a contemporary dance company established in 1993 by the legendary Paul Taylor and currently directed by Susan McGuire, a Taylor Company alumna. Taylor 2 tours extensively, performing a broad spectrum of works that display athleticism, humor and the broad range of human emotions. Its mission has led the company to give hundreds of concerts and master classes throughout United States and around the world.

The Southeastern Showcase Concert will feature special performances by Gathering Wild Dance Company of Atlanta, the Power Company dancers of Columbia, SC, and the Sapphire Moon Dance Company. Gathering Wild Dance Company, founded by Jerylann Warner in 1993, performs original choreography to world music. The Power Company, directed by Columbia College dance professor Martha Brim, performs work inspired by the power of art, dancing and an individual spirit. Angela Gallo, Coker College assistant professor of dance, founded Sapphire Moon Dance Company in New York five years ago. She will be joined by Eliza Ingle of Charleston, SC.

The Gala Concert will feature the top 10 dances selected from the conference’s adjudicated concerts. The adjudicators are Frank Chaves of Western Michigan University, New York choreographer Jannis Brenner, and Virginia Johnson, editor-in-chief of Pointe Magazine.

Over 400 dancers will be participating in the ACDF Southeast Conference at Coker College. In addition to the concerts, the conference includes master classes, seminars and workshops.
