Let reference books help to guide your research. Use them to get:

  • topic ideas
  • ways to narrow or broaden your focus
  • new search terms
  • brief background data
  • an overview of your subject
  • definitions
 

Using reference books can save you LOADS of time!  They traditionally include encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri, companions, directories, handbooks, almanacs, and such.  The one thing they all have in common is that they provide information that is written by experts, fast and easy to find, and concise.
