![]() Coker Breaks Enrollment and Housing RecordsThis fall, Coker College has enrolled 701 traditional undergraduate students—25 more than last year and 53 more than the previous year.
“We’re delighted to see both increases,” said Coker College President Robert Wyatt. “It’s exciting to see our campus teaming with so many bright young people not only because of the energy they bring to our work, but also because growth at Coker ripples across Hartsville in the form of valuable economic and cultural benefits,” Wyatt said. In conjunction with the enrollment growth, Coker has recently made a number of investments to beautify the campus and enhance its living-learning communities with new curricular and co-curricular programs, support networks and wellness initiatives. Coker has expanded the size of its faculty, adding new tenure-track positions in Chinese, English, physical education and biology, and maintaining its student/faculty ratio of 10:1, which is the lowest of any independent residential college in the region. To accommodate the increased housing demand, Coker has opened new loft apartments at the west end of campus to serve 20 third- and fourth-year students. And, while Coker’s residential life offerings now include such enviable comforts as luxury downtown apartments, the college has also expanded staffing in the division of student affairs to infuse its intramural program and other wellness initiatives with a rigorous, competitive spirit not commonly found on the campus of a selective residential college.
