You are cordially invited to join the Major James Lide Coker Society honoring individuals who have included Coker College in their estate plans through charitable bequests or life income gifts.
A veteran of the Civil War and one of South Carolina’s foremost businessmen and community leaders, Major James Lide Coker was an extraordinary visionary who laid the solid foundation upon which the College is built. His principles and practices have shaped and inspired the Coker College community for nearly 100 years.
Major Coker gave a great amount of time and thought to the College as well as considerable financial support. He provided the funds to construct the first two residence halls and what is now known as Davidson Hall at the center of campus. He also established the College’s original endowment, which he enlarged through a bequest at his death.
That spirit of generosity and commitment to education is the inspiration for the Major James Lide Coker Society. |
