HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Sept. 12, 2012 – Looking for a giant snake in the grass might not seem like good Saturday morning fun, but Brandon Fain, Coker’s director of intramurals and wellness, hopes students might feel differently next Saturday.  

Embedded in the five-acre maze at Pim Farms this year is a menacing 250-foot Coker Cobra that students and the public are encouraged to navigate and explore.

Pim Farms will open its corn maze for the fall season with a Salute to Coker College at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.

A family-friendly event, the Salute to Coker College is intended as a way to strengthen the bonds between Coker College and the Pee Dee region.  It marks the third time that Coker and Pim Farms have worked together to highlight local opportunities for healthy outdoor fun.

Last year, Pim Booth, who owns and operates Pim Farms, provided Coker with discs for their disc golf course and was a contributor to the Amazing Race event Coker held last spring.

“Brandon was the mastermind behind the event,” said Booth.  “I am always looking for new ‘maize’ ideas, and when asked to put together a Coker event, I thought of the Cobra.”

“The most intriguing part of the Salute to Coker College event for me will be seeing the athletic logo transformed into a giant corn maze,” said Lynn Griffin, vice president of athletics and facilities.  “We all know Cobras are daunting, but this brings the idea to a whole new level. It will be an interesting thing to see.”

Along with the Coker Cobras corn maze game, goers will be able to enjoy a variety of other outdoor activities.
